How ready are you for Industry 4.0?

Use the Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) to ignite and unlock the benefits of industry 4.0

Many companies are caught in the pilot trap with Industry 4.0

Let’s face it: Industry 4.0 is a complex subject, one that’s full of buzzwords and promises. With this noise, it’s difficult for companies of any size to create and implement effective Industry 4.0 initiatives.

Over 70% of companies fail to scale their Industry 4.0, yet the vast majority of manufacturing leaders see it as critical to their survival.

So, how do you break this paradox? And, where do you start and prioritise the limited resources you have?

SIRI: the world’s first independent digital maturity assessment for manufacturers

NLCo Yellow Hatch

The Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) was created in partnership with a network of leading technology companies, consultancy firms, and industry and academic experts. SIRI comprises a suite of frameworks and tools to help manufacturers – regardless of size and industry – start, scale, and sustain their manufacturing transformation journeys. SIRI covers the three core elements of Industry 4.0: Process, Technology, and Organisation.

Why IGNITEit! Matters

NLCo IGNITEit White Logo

To ignite Industry 4.0 transformations with a crystal-clear roadmap focused on your goals.

IGNITEit! which incorporates the SIRI Assessment outlines the “how” through a prioritised roadmap linked to value and realistic outcomes.

Why did we choose the periodic element 8 for IGNITEit?  Element number 8 is Oxygen. Without enough oxygen, a fire cannot begin, and it cannot continue. With a decreased oxygen concentration, the combustion process slows, just like a transformation without its “why”.

How We Do It

Prioritise the opportunities to your outcomes

Our approach understands your current state of digital maturity and compares this to your industry and competitors.

We link this back to the financial drivers and goals to understand which levers to pull to create the most value for you.

We then put this into a crystal-clear Industry 4.0 roadmap.

Align on your priorities to improve

Together, we understand the relationship between different areas of Industry 4.0 and how they affect your goals.

Compare your performance with competition

We understand your Industry 4.0 maturity against 16 core capabilities for a manufacturing business.

Define the roadmap to deliver value

We highlight the top 4 things which need to be done to drive the greatest value into your business and place these in a clear roadmap.

THREE MOST IMPORTANT OUTCOMES

IGNITEit! sets your Industry 4.0 path to value

You break out of pilot purgatory with a clear and aligned understanding of how to reach the benefits.

Focus on the few things that matter, which you can improve and which you can see the results.

Now it is time to ACCELERATE the change…

1

Renewed energy and focus to transform for achieving critical KPI’s

2

Clarity of the critical areas of focus to improve your performance

3

A crystal-clear plan to achieve your performance improvement

We start with what is important to you

Together, we understand the relationship between different areas of Industry 4.0 and how they affect your goals.

We start with understanding the bottom line of the business or facility and drive deeper into your business objectives.

We turn digital transformation on its head by being clear about what needs to be impacted.

IGNITEit - We start with what is important to you

We outline the areas which ignite the value

You don’t need to be the best in everything you do.  But it would be best if you were good at what matters.

We understand your Industry 4.0 maturity against 16 core capabilities for a manufacturing business.

We compare your maturity to peer companies and align on what impacts your goals.

Knowing where to start your industry 4.0 journey to unlock the greatest benefits

The Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) comprises a suite of frameworks and tools to help manufacturers – regardless of size and industry – start, scale and sustain their manufacturing transformation journeys. As the global measure for Industry 4.0 transformation maturity, SIRI helps to increase awareness and set targets that organizations can work towards. It also provides a structured framework for manufacturers to benchmark against their peers, identify their strengths and weaknesses to better prioritise development efforts and resources, and track their progress on their digital transformation journeys.

Over 1000 manufacturers spanning 30 different countries have completed the official SIRI Assessment and are benefiting from the improvements it has driven.

The approach to the SIRI assessment guides manufacturers towards to the opportunities around Industry 4.0

Transforming and upgrading a manufacturing facility is not a one-off exercise. Rather, it is a continuous and iterative process. This is encapsulated in the LEAD framework: Learn, Evaluate, Architect and Deliver – a circular, continuous four-step process that all manufacturers can adopt in their approach towards Industry 4.0 transformation.

Understanding the key components of a future-ready manufacturing facility is a critical first step in any effective transformation journey. In response, the SIRI framework draws on the Reference Architectural Model Industry 4.0 (RAMI 4.0) to provide a practical, yet comprehensive illustration of all the necessary ingredients.

The SIRI framework comprises three layers. The topmost layer identifies three fundamental building blocks of Industry 4.0: Technology, Process, and Organisation. All three building blocks must be considered to harness the full potential of Industry 4.0. Underpinning the building blocks are eight pillars, which represent critical aspects that companies must focus on to become future-ready organisations. The third and final layer comprises sixteen dimensions that companies should reference when evaluating the current maturity levels of their facilities.

Prioritisation is the next critical exercise in formulating effective Industry 4.0 roadmaps, as it helps companies identify business areas where improvements will generate the most value. Despite the importance of prioritisation, limited guidance was available to help companies conduct a robust and comprehensive prioritisation exercise.

We address this gap with the TIER framework, which outlines four principles for companies to consider as part of a holistic prioritisation exercise. By evaluating these four principles, manufacturers can better focus their energies and resources on activities that bring the greatest benefits.

  • TODAY’S STATE – Develop in-depth understanding of the company’s current Industry 4.0 maturity level.
  • IMPACT TO THE BOTTOM LINE – Analyse how distinct Industry 4.0 areas affect the company’s profits and identify those that can generate the greatest financial returns.
  • ESSENTIAL BUSINESS OBJECTIVES – Determine the business objectives that are the most critical to the company to guide the selection of relevant Industry 4.0 needs.
  • REFERENCES TO THE BROADER COMMUNITY – Emulate the success and learn from the mistakes of the broader manufacturing community.

Learning the key concepts is an essential first step in any transformation journey, but that alone is not enough. Companies must next evaluate the current state of their manufacturing facilities, before they can identify areas of improvement. Companies can conduct this comprehensive evaluation of their facilities through the SIRI Assessment. This includes the Assessment Matrix to establish their standing across 16 key dimensions and the Prioritisation Matrix to identify high-impact dimensions for further action.

Through the Official SIRI Assessments (OSA), the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global SIRI Initiative has started building the world’s largest datasets and benchmarks on the current state of manufacturing.

By democratizing this knowledge, we aim to fundamentally reform the manufacturing community’s approach to industrial transformation, from one that is ad-hoc and anecdote-based to one that relies on a standardized methodology supported by data. The 2022 edition of the insights report draws on data from manufacturers across 30 countries to provide:

1. New insights on the current state of industrial transformation across multiple manufacturing sectors,

2. Real-world case studies on how different manufacturing stakeholders are leveraging the SIRI programme to accelerate their digital transformation journeys.
